Effective Cardio Exercises to lose weight

Cardio. We hate to love it, we love to hate it.

Cardio is an exercise that keeps your heart rate high for a very long time. For years now, cardio has been the king of all the exercises. Every exercise includes cardio as it’s base except for weight training. Is strength training really superior to cardio when it comes to fitness and weight loss? Or is it the other way around?

When we talk about cardio exercises, it generally refers to any form of workout that raises the heartbeat. Running, swimming, skipping, cycling are some of the best cardio exercises you can do. However, these are the commonly known forms of cardio exercises. There are so many that are fun, unique yet quite unknown to us that we will look into further. Exercise doesn’t have to be a task, it can be a fun, refreshing, and energizing way to live your life. Let’s highlight these cardio exercises in detail -

  1. Running - The go-to cardio exercise for everyone. It helps you burn those extra unnecessary fats and can help you get that summer body you’ve been longing to get. The major benefit of running is that it improves your overall heart rate and releases endorphins like no other cardio workout.

  2. Cycling - Cycling is a low-impact exercise that targets your abs and lower body. All age groups can do this exercise. Cycling is known as a fun cardio exercise. You can do it with your partner/friend and this exercise will never bore you. One of the major benefits of cycling is it helps develop muscle strength and stimulates the bones to help them grow taller.

  3. Swimming – Swimming is the best way to work your entire body and cardiovascular system. It increases your heart rate without stressing your body. Swimming tones your muscles and builds strength. For beginners, Start swimming twice a week for 30 mins. Gradually increase the time once you are comfortable.

  4. Rowing - Rowing is a total body workout as it uses 86% of the muscles. Rowing comprises 70% of a leg workout and 30% upper body workout. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or expert, Rowing can be done by anyone. Rowing improves heart strength as it is an intense workout.

  5. Skipping - Skipping is the ultimate fun and HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training). It burns more calories than any other cardio exercise. Doing 10 minutes of skipping can burn as many calories as running for a mile under 8 minutes. Skipping targets your abs, legs, arms, back and prevents fewer joint injuries compared to running.
