Tips For Cool Workouts Outside During Hot Temperatures
Temperatures have already hit the highs and those who love exercising outdoors might already have experienced the challenges posed by the hot summer. But still, you need not completely say good-bye to your love of working outdoors. With a few simple changes to your routine as well as some measures to not let the heat affect you, you can still enjoy your outdoor training sessions. Here are a few tips from us.
The Replenishment Factor
Hydrate more and more. You knew this was coming, didn’t you? Well, its importance can’t be exaggerated. Never forget to keep your water bottle close while going out for a run or workout. And you can never have too much of it. To keep it interesting, you can have lime-flavoured water or a sports drink.
And, you will also be losing a lot of salt through sweating and hence it’s not a bad idea to have a few snacks that are rich in salt to replenish the sodium levels in your body.
Timing is Everything!
If you are a morning person, ensure that you wake up earlier than usual and commence your training before the sun enters the field! If your professional schedules does not allow morning workouts, then it is better to go for a run or workout once the sun has set. In a nutshell, make sure that you choose the coolest times of the day for your routine. And choose a path for your run or workout wisely. It would be an added advantage if it has good number of trees and is well shaded.
Wear the Right Gear
You are not working out at a gym so you will be losing a few comforts obviously. To make up for those, choose light-coloured, preferably cotton clothing, and those which allow you to breathe easy. If you are not working in a shaded area, don’t forget to bring a hat and sun-glasses with you. Also, apply some sun-protection to safeguard your skin.
Don’t Push It!
It’s not wise to put too much focus on breaking your personal run records or exercise reps while working outdoors during these hot temperatures. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Monitor your heart-rate and see if you are feeling any discomfort or soreness than usual. Optimize your daily goals and do not over-work!
No better time to find an exercise partner than this. It is not only fun working out with friends or family, you will also have that added feeling of safety just in case anything untoward happens during your session.
So, are you ready to have a fit and cool summer?
